The Beyond Boundaries initiative has landed on African Soil at Wanderers Cricket Staduim

The Beyond Boundaries initiative, launched in India last October with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar as its global ambassador, aims to enhance the game, especially in underserved communities. They’ve distributed 50 repurposed shipping containers to grassroots cricket clubs worldwide, each equipped with necessary gear.

The first container landed in Africa, bringing 250 kits for local clubs and was unveiled at Johannesburg’s Wanderers Stadium. The initiative’s goal is to spread cricket globally while supporting underprivileged areas.

Jono Leaf-wright, Wanderers CEO, emphasized the significance of this effort in leveling the playing field within the Lions franchise and providing gear to needy children. Three containers have been dispatched in India, one in the UAE, and now the fifth in Johannesburg, marking its African debut.

Children from Soweto and Alexandra received their kits first, with former Proteas bowler Allan Donald present, stressing the importance of nurturing young talent, particularly from black african communities.

The containers, serving as pavilions with built-in scoreboards, sun protection, and seating, were utilized for training sessions, offering a comprehensive solution for grassroots cricket development.
