CSA T20 Challenge team of the weekend

It was a fascinating weekend of double headers in the CSA T20 Challenge. The two teams that entered the weekend winless won their first matches of the competition.

Gbets Paarl Rocks, even though they won against the Hollywoodbets Dolphins, sit at the bottom of the table because AET Tuskers won against the DP World Lions with a bonus point. Tuskers’ win over the Lions was the surprise of the weekend, and Kieth Dungeon was the MVP of the weekend.

Dafabet Warriors continued with business at the top of the log by winning against Auto Investments North West Dragons to remain unbeaten in 6 matches. The Warriors’ next match will be against a wounded Lions side at the Bullring on Thursday.

WSB Western Province and Momentum Multiply Titans tied their rain affected match on Saturday and shared the points.

As for the team of the weekend, it is not surprising that no one from the Lions made the team this time around.

Here is the CSA T20 Challenge team of the weekend;

  1. David Beddingham (WP): David was one run shy from making a half century when he was dismissed by David Wiese. He laid a good platform for WP when he scored a 32 ball 49. At the time when David was in, it looked like WP would win the match easily, but unfortunately, the match was tied.
  2. Edward Moore (WP): Eddie was the only top order batter to score a half century over the weekend. He gave WP a good foundation with David.
  3. Marques Ackerman (Dolphins): Marques batted at number 4, but he comes in at 3. He has the ability to bat at number 3, so the team is not weakened. He showed what he is capable of when he anchored the Dolphins team with an unbeaten 50 scoring at 156 strike rate.
  4. Lesiba Ngoepe (Dragons): Lesiba finally had a match that he could be proud of in the CSA T20 Challenge. Lesiba showed his value to the Dragons batting line-up when he scored a 25 ball 45 not out, including 4 sixes. His efforts were in vein as the Dragons lost, but the Dragons would be happy that Lesiba seemed to have found his touch at the right time of the competition.
  5. Sinethemba Qeshile wk (Warriors): Sine the wicketkeeper batter was on show against the Dragons. His glovework was not so impressive, but his batting was impressive. The Dragons bowlers had no answer as Sine was scoring all over the ground. He scored a 30 ball 51 with 3 sixes at a strike rate of 170.
  6. Patrick Kruger (Warriors): Patrick is becoming one of the best T20 finishers in South Africa. He played this role in the SA20 for EC Sunrisers, and he did again for the Warriors against the Dragons. Patrick, along with Sine, had a 92-run partnership at a strike rate of 219. Patrick scored 46 from 21 balls with a strike rate of over 200.
  7. Christiaan Jonker (Rocks): gave the Paarl side their first win in the T20 Challenge. When Christiaan went to bat, the Rocks looked out of match, but two solid partnerships with Ferisco Adams and Shaun von Berg helped the Rocks reach the target. Unfortunately, Ferisco did not make the team, but his contribution was invaluable. Christiaan struck an unbeaten 26 ball 40 with 3 sixes at a strike rate of 183.
  8. George Linde (WP): George takes the all-rounder spot over his teammate Wayne Parnell. George took 2 wickets for 25 against the Titans. George van Heerden and Rivaldo Moonsamy were George’s victims. George, alongside Shaun, are the two spinners of the team.
  9. Shaun von Berg (Rocks): The Rocks leg spinner is in the team for his low order batting performance more than his bowling efforts. Shaun struck unbeaten 26 of 16 balls. With a ball, he took 1 wicket in his 4 overs at an economy of 6.5 runs an over, which is good.
  10. David Wiese (Titans): David Wiese took 4 for 20 in his 4 overs against WP. He got the wickets of the dangerous opening batter David Beddingham, WP captain Kyle Verreynne, Onke Nyaku, and George. David is the reason the Titans did not lose the match.
  11. Keith Dudgeon (Tuskers): The Tuskers man returned home in Johannesburg, and he caused havoc for the Lions batters. Keith took 3 of his 4 wickets in the first over. Keith made history as became the first bowler to take 3 wickets in the first over in the CSA T20 Challenge. He finished with impressive figures of 4 for 5 in his 3 overs. All of the 4 batters he took out did not score a single run. With a high possibility that the Tuskers will be relegated, Lions should probably look into getting Keith back in Johannesburg.
