Great moments in the CSA T20 Challenge final

Russell Domingo managed to grab his second trophy as the DP World Lions head coach after winning the CSA T20 Challenge against the Hollywoodbets Dolphins. The home crowd came out to the final but unfortunately out of the 16 sixes that were hit, no one managed to grab a one handed catch to win themselves R250,000 and a 2 year supply of beer from SAB.

The final was entertaining as the Dolphins set the Lions a good respectable total of 166. It was a tricky chase that the homeside could not take slightly.

In the end, the final was won by the team that had the best moment coming into the final. The Lions have been a well-oiled team with little to no weaknesses since they adjusted to the T20 format from the CSA 4-Day Series.

Here are some great moments in the final:

  1. Reeza Hendricks responsible knock of 73 of 52 balls not out. He took the team home as the in batter.
  2. Khaya Zondo has reinvented himself in the format, and those laps and scoops work. They are beautiful to watch.
  3. Codi Yusuf had a good game with the ball, but his wicket maiden in the final was a statement made from the 26 year old from Kynsna
  4. Tshepang Dithole’s catch behind the stumps from a beautiful ball by Andile Phehlukwayo. For a moment, the Dolphins thought they were within a chance.
  5. Darryn Dupavillon responded to a free hit by  nailing a perfect yorker, but it was not given out because it was a free hit.
  6. Wiaan Mulder showed that his SA20 form with the bat was no fluke. He did the same in the CSA T20 Challenge final, scoring 26 ball 55 not out.
  7. Wiaan’s catch when Marques Ackerman hit a leading edge that went high off the bowling of Evan Jones. That ball went high, and Wiaan had to concentrate to eventually catch it diving forward.
  8. The growth of Jason Smith, like Wiaan in the SA20, where he played for Durban Super Giants worthy of observation. He showed up in the final as he held the Dolphins innings together and scored a 33 ball 51.
  9. The crowd at the Wanderers “Bullring” did well to support the last day of professional domestic cricket in South Africa this season of 23/24. The crowd was not disappointed as the players from both teams showed up and gave them a show.
